Sports Medicine and Regenerative Medicine

One of the first documented instances in the media of a professional athlete undergoing a regenerative medicine procedure was Hines Ward who underwent a platelet rich plasma injection (PRP injection) prior to the 2009 Super Bowl. Since then, this treatment modality has been utilized extensively in the Sports Medicine field and is now commonly utilized by non-athletes as well. We have even advanced to using this powerful tool to help decrease inflammation and pain for patients undergoing spinal procedures.

We have used this tool to treat conditions such as tendinopathies, degenerative joints such as the knee or shoulder with osteoarthritis and painful facet joints in the lumbar spine. There are many systems on the market and ways to process the blood to make it most effective in yielding better results. Therefore, not all platelet rich plasma injections are created equal. Our physicians have researched and utilized multiple systems and have confidence that we are offering the best product to yield the best possible results.

Regenerative medicine cellular-based therapies are not magical cure-all procedures. Patient selection for such procedures is crucial and setting up the proper reasonable expectations is essential which is something that our physicians pride ourselves on.

During this time of year when we give thanks, we would like to thank all of our patients for entrusting us with their medical care. An honor that we relish.
